W4W 2010

Women 4 Women Day

Our one-day event in Pierre was fun, enlightening and successful.
Women and men from across the state came together to talk with our legislators and show their support for women in these 4 important areas:

Education
Equal Opportunity
Reproductive Rights
Violence Against Women

The day featured:
Bus ride from Sioux Falls-Brookings
Lunch at the Kings Inn
Evening reception with legislators

This was a great opportunity to observe legislators in action and to meet with them to talk about important issues for women and their families. We're already making plans and looking forward to our next W4W Day: January 31, 2011.

Welcome to the SDANW Homepage!

South Dakota Advocacy Network for Women: A network providing education, an advocacy voice and collective action on behalf of individuals and organizations.

Founded in 1984, the South Dakota Advocacy Network for Women (SDANW) has been a force for equity, equality and positive change for women and their families.

We are dedicated to empowering women to achieve economic self-sufficiency and to improve their health and that of their children. We support women in their role as mothers as well as promote their inclusion in management, governance and decision-making.

Efforts by the SDANW have helped

  • South Dakota women maintain control of their reproductive choices
  • Establish mandatory insurance coverage for mammography
  • Garner state funds to support shelters for battered women and rape victims
  • Establish the state Office of Child Care
  • Organize the first annual South Dakota Women's Summit in fall 2005

There is, however, much yet to be done.  We welcome your involvement in shaping a future that gives every woman in South Dakota equal access to education, training and jobs that offer family-sustaining wages and fair employment benefits.
